Celebration

Teal for ovarian cancer, Gold for the cord that connects us to Heaven.
What a celebration we had this last week!  Our hearts are missing a "Dee Dee" sized piece, but we celebrate knowing she's Home and healed.

I got no less than 10 requests for the Apple Muffin recipe Dee Dee kept close to her chest.  This was the recipe she made for the guests at my wedding, that she took to people mourning the loss of loved ones, and that she made for every other occasion.  Seeing that she won't be taking these muffins anymore, it seems appropriate to release the recipe into the world.  All I ask is you remember her when you make them, and that at some point you make a second batch (not a double batch!  Mom would never make a double batch!  Those never turn out!) for someone who needs extra encouragement.

"Dee Dee's" Famous Apple Muffins
(Makes 12)

1 3/4 cup flour
1 1/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon baking soda

1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
1 cup peeled, cored and chopped tart apple
2/3 cup raisins
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 eggs
1/2 cup finely chopped walnuts

Preheat oven to 325.
Sift flour, sugar, baking soda, cinnamon, salt, cloves and nutmeg into a large bowl.
Mix in apple, raisins and nuts.
Stir in eggs.  Blend in oil.  (Batter will be stiff.)
Place 2 tablespoons each into each muffin cup.
Bake 25-30 minutes.

September 1, 2019

Yesterday, when mom was coming in and out of lucidity, she pointed to her chest and said "turn me off."

"Oh mama, that's not my role.  That's between you and Jesus.  But it's fine, tell him he can turn you off whenever He's ready for you."

Several hours later, in her typical Dee Dee fashion (that is, with little fanfare and making as little fuss as possible), Jesus turned her off.  It was peaceful and she passed away with a smile on her face.  While we are brokenhearted, we are thrilled to know SHE is no longer broken.  In fact, when sitting with Anne yesterday, she ran through her vocal scales.  So we are pretty sure she's singing in the choir right now.

Labor day is making it hard to confirm plans, but we expect that there will be a visitation Wednesday evening and memorial service midday Thursday.  I will post details when it is 100% confirmed.

Thank you for you love and support.  We feel it now more than ever.
